I'm About To Become A Radio / Podcast Host. What!?

Spending the last few days in London has been amazing and just the break I needed and just in time too. Since returning to Ireland I've had to hit the ground running on a few projects and sometimes it feels like I'm not running fast enough and that I'll  be tasting the ground beneath my feet soon.

One of these illusive projects is a radio podcast that I've been wanting to start. I'd been listening to a lot of podcasts and was sucked into the many life stories I heard. I was struck by how different some lives truly are. I could be listening to a podcast about Dov Charney, American Apparel's somewhat controversial founder with Start Up and then listening to a tale of a love story that ended up in drug trafficking Colombia with Love + Radio. You can check out both of these podcasts here and also here.

Faking Adulthood Now was a show born out of my Pretending To Be An Adult Being blog series and focuses on adjusting to the ideals  and expectations of adulthood and what it means to be an adult.

The show will be produced with a local radio station, Dublin South FM where I use to volunteer in, they even let me run my own show! I left to give more attention to my Leaving Certificate exams but I pitched the show to them before heading to London and they said yes!

It's still very early days but because of the nature of the show/podcast I'd need to start early in order to reach out to people for the different episodes.

The first season of the show will consist of 6-8 hour long episodes or 12-16 half hour shows. The release date is yet to be discussed because as I said, its pretty early stages. However if you're interested in hearing more about the show and following along as we bring it to life,  you can join the journey and also show your support for the show by liking and following our Facebook Page here, and our Twitter here.

The shows will be broadcast first on Dublin South FM and then on the shows SoundCloud account which you can follow here and iTunes which I will link as soon as I figure out how to set up one (any help on this would be appreciated too.

I'd be really grateful for your support at this stage just to know how interested you all are in this project. The first season will be focusing on Love & Relationships. We'll be looking to tell stories about relationships within the family, how your relationship with your parents, siblings,step-relations, whomever works. The good, the bad and the ugly, I'd love to here it all.

Other episodes will focus on relationships within our friends group, with our partners, work etc.  For a more full list click here to see if there are any topics you would like to contribute to and also to see what's coming up ahead. You can email the show to submit stories at: submitmystory@fakingadulthoodnow.com. If you have any questions or queries you can also email info@fakingadulthoodnow.com for answers. No stories or personal information will be released to anyone outside of the show team without prior consent.

I'm really excited about this project, I'm scared crapless that it's going to be a flop or nobody will even listen but what's it they say "Be afraid and do it anyways"

In the meantime follow along with us on Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud. If you have any stories, suggestions or ideas I'll be beyond grateful if you'd contribute. Check out the Faking Adulthood Now website here, which although under construction still has a lot of information and is also where some teasers will be released in the upcoming weeks to the launch.

And you can also sign up to our mailing list for more behind the scenes and production knowledge as we bring this project from the drawing board to life! Subscribe here or on the site.

  1. This is so exciting! I haven't listened to a podcast or radio show in awhile, but a friend of mine hosted one while in university, so I liked to listen in when I could - take a break from school work and have it on while cleaning or something. I'll definitely be listening :)
